Castle Kunstat

The original medieval castle acquired its present appearance during reconstruction in the mid 16th century and during the years 1678–1680. The first mention of a Gothic castle on the site of the present-day Kunstat chateau dates from 1280. Its founders were the aristocratic family Kunstat. From their line came the celebrated Czech, George of Kunstat of Podebrady, to whom the Kunstat estate belonged from 1427–1464.

The reconstructions did not entirely replace earlier parts of the building, so today the construction history of the aristocratic residency can be followed from Gothicism through to Classicism.
